What is orthodontics?

Orthodontics: It is a specialty of dentistry, which diagnoses and controls the harmony relationships of discordant and irregular teeth, tries to prevent and treat this condition.

Why do orthodontic problems occur and how is it treated?

Disorders of the jaws (such as when the lower jaw is at the front or back) are usually irritable. If the jaw is large, the teeth are smaller, the teeth are intermittent.  If the tongue is larger than normal, there are tooth cavities in the mouth that cause the teeth to be spread.  If the jawbone is small, the teeth are large, the teeth cannot fit into the jaw and there is dichotomy.  In the presence of skeletal problems, the treatment method is decided according to the age of the patient. If the patient is in adolescence and his or her lower jaw or upper jaw is behind, it can be treated with orthodontic methods. If the patient is adult, severe skeletal disorders are treated with orthodontics-surgery.

Depending on the functional disorders (such as mouth breathing) jaw mismatches may occur. The upper jaw is generally in a V form because it is narrow in a patient who has mouth breathing.  It may cause orthodontic disorders in long-term habits such as lying pacifier or bottle, finger sucking, nail eating, etc.  Habits should be treated as early as possible (ages 7-10). Due to the fact that they are detected at an early age, the skeletal disorder, which can be adversely affected by a simple appliance, is prevented.  Another cause of perplexed teeth is early or late loss of milk teeth. Each milk tooth has a falling time. For example, if a 10-year-old milk tooth falls at the age of 8, the permanent teeth in the mouth will slide into this space and the tooth that has to be removed cannot find a place.  In this case, the tooth develops into or out of the tooth cavity, or in some cases remains recessed.

Is orthodontic treatment painful?

With the development of wire alloys used in orthodontic treatment, the sensitivity of the teeth decreased.  In the beginning of the treatment, the contractions that occur during the bite due to tooth movement can be removed with simple painkillers.

Is orthodontic treatment expensive?

Teeth that cannot be brushed due to perplexity can be lost due to rotting or gingival diseases and gingival recess. Orthodontic treatment at the right time prevents the loss of teeth that will occur in old age and is much cheaper than compensating the lost teeth.
